I am searching for the joy that most runners find. I just finished my hour on the treadmill this morning at the rec center and I am glad I did it but it is a chore I do six days a week. I have friends who say they love running and I just smile.
In the past few months I have run a 5k, 10k and a half marathon and I did feel good after I finished but not a lot of smiles and giggles during.
On days when its not 100 degrees outside I jog in the neighborhood or on the Loveland Bike Trail but I stil always look forward to it being over. lol If you are a runner that LOVES to do it please explain it to me. How do you get to that place where you look forward to it everyday...or is it just a myth?

Well Brian, I personally do enjoy my runs. Just not in 100 degree heat indices and 90 degree actual temperatures. LOL. That said I got where I looked forward to it by simply reminding myself that it's worth the exhaustion I will likely feel afterward. I think that's the hump you have to get over...your mind is telling you you don't want to do the run because you'll be exhausted afterward and not want to do anything.

Hey Brian,
Sometimes I love my runs, but sometimes (like on hot, muggy, summer days here in Virginia) it's a chore. I haven't run on a treadmill in months and really find it boring--I'd rather brave the weather, almost always. My best runs are those when I have great music on, am not worried about time or pace, am running on a pretty trail, and when there are other runners or bikers out so I can people watch. I keep track of my runs with Nike+ and almost always participate in a BTL challenge (about the only BTL element I still keep up with). I get a lot of satisfaction in watching the miles pile up. I also get a good deal of satisfaction in knowing that, having been way overweight most of my adult life, I can (honestly) say I run 4 or 5 miles three or four times a week. That's big. I like to run alone because I use the time to think, problem solve, pray, or think about my accomplishments and goals. It also accomplishes my exercise requirements so much faster than walking.

I'm one of those crazy people that enjoys running. I think because it really improves my mood. I will be totally grouchy, but once I hop on my treadmill all of my stress disappears. I'll start singing and smiling, really enjoying myself. I'm guessing it's the serotonin release to the brain? It gives me a natural high.
Anyways, it's been awile since I've visited your blog, but I was wondering how you've been doing so I thought that I'd pop by to say "HI" :O)
