Blogging again...sorry for my absence

IMG_3896

I haven't blogged in quite sometime and I am going to re-commit to updating at the very least once a week. Why haven't I been blogging? Life has gotten a lot busier...its all good but I have let my blogging slack and I NEED to blog to stay locked in with my weight loss. #1 it keeps me accountable #2 I love reading all of your blogs.

I am still at my goal weight, I have not been to my weight watchers meeting in a couple of months and I miss the people there and plan on going with the next few weeks. Again life is better than ever before just not enough hours in the day to accomplish everything I want to.

Personally life is grand the kids are awesome, my girlfriend Missy has changed my life and I am so thankful for her and my amazing kids. Work is going really well. It is summertime here and so that means a lot of concerts and fun interviews for the radio and at the tv station.

Over the next couple of days I will post blogs on:

  • New music for your work outs (some awesome new music to pump up your workouts)
  • A bike ride that gave me new perspective.
  • Some new foods I have added to my life and that I love and maybe you will too :-)
  • Some of my Fox Tv interviews called "Behind the Hits" with Julianne Hough and Kings of Leon
  • To Tummy Tuck or not to Tummy Tuck?

** The photo above is from an interview I did for Fox 19 TV with Julianne Hough

Memorial Day random thoughts...

Iwo-jima-picture1
  • Happy Memorial Day and THANK YOU to all who have or are currently serving in the Military. You deserve our utmost respect and gratitude.

Question-mark
  • "Why don't you post very often?" I got this question recently and I used to wonder the same thing about some other bloggers that I followed when I first started. I sometimes wonder if what I have to say here helps anyone and I NEVER want to come off as a know it all so I have just been reading blogs from others. I did receive a very kind email from someone that kind of made me start thinking of it in different terms. She was very kind in her words about my weight loss.

Weight-scale
  •  When I first started WW and weighed 340 pounds I would see what I thought were skinny             people in the meetings and wonder why they were there? Well those are people who have met    their goal or very close to meeting their goal and they helped me a lot. Sometimes when I go to   a WW meeting other than my own I feel like people look at me just like I used to look at others  who didn't need any help. I recently made lifetime and I still need help everyday!
Running
  • Running...those of you who love it...how did you develop that passion for running? I do cardio but just a brisk walk. I just struggle finding that passion to lunge head long into it.

Flatout

  • Low Point Snacks or tips? A good friend of mine just recently started WW and I senr her a list of low point snacks anyone have anything that you recently discivered and are loving that is also low in point value?
IMG_1189
  • Hope you are havng a great and safe Memorial Day Weekend! I am headed to "Taste of Cincinnati" later today for work. I will be in the Q102 booth between 6-9p on Sunday, if you come down make sure you stop by and say hi :-)

Update on my weight loss

DSC_0106

I have had some e-mails asking about where I was at as far as my weight loss. I am happy to report to you that I have been maintaining my Weight Watcher's LIFETIME status :-)

It has not been easy but there have been some breakthroughs. I am in such a great place mentally. For much of the first year on WW I struggled so hard with body image issues. Even though I have lost 130 pounds I couldn't see myself any other way than my former self. That changed over the past few months and now I can see what others see...once in a while I will still have a flashback to my old self. My girlfriend has been so very helpful with this and I thank her.

There have been many other life altering events and positive changes including just LOVING life in a whole new way. I have always been a glass half full kind of guy but now I refuse to let anything get in my way. One other thing I noticed that when I smile in pictures it looks like I am happy. I look at old pics of myself (when I wasn't hiding from them being taken) and my smile was forced and there was a sadness in my eyes.

Do I have it all figured out and will I never have to worry about my weight again...HARDLY :-) I know that I will always have to work on my health and weight management. The difference is now I know I can keep it off!

Biggest Loser last night

Biggest_losermike_l

I know I have said this before but I just LOVE the Biggest Loser! I mentioned yesterday on my radio show that I feel the Biggest Loser is not only inspirational to those of us who want to lose weight but I think it is so motivational in so many areas of our day to day lives.

***SPOILER ALERT if you did not watch last night STOP reading now. I wished Mike had won the Biggest Loser title last night but I was happy to see Helen win. Losing 54% of her total body weight!!!! There were so many great stories and transformations on this season of the Biggest Loser.

If you missed last night's finale MAKE SURE you check out NBC.com or HULU.com to watch it. I hope you are having a great day!

213 grams of fat? Really???

Do you Twitter? I do at "Q102briand" I follow "Twittofit" and they sent out a link to the following article this morning. I had read some of the stats on a few of these foods before however was blown away with others! Here is the article from Manolith.

17 Foods With The Most Caloric Bang For Your Buck

Posted April 19th, 2009 by Yosef Solomon - 40,201 views

Have you ever wondered what foods have the highest Caloric counts? Have you ever wondered what they foods had the highest calorie count per $1? Well, for the most part these are synonymous. The following is a list of some of the worst foods in the world for you - in health terms - as well as a breakdown of exactly how you get what you are paying for. After reading this, you ‘ll mostly likely vow to never eat these menu items again.

Chili’s Awesome Blossom

awesome-blossom1

source

Calories: 2130
Fat (g): 213

Saturated Fat (g): 31
Sugar (g): n/a
Sodium(mg): 1320
Price: $11.99
Calories per $1.00: 178

This menu item was long-considered the most unhealthy thing you could eat at in an American restaraunt, until after tons of bad press, Chili’s removed it permanently from their menu. We felt compelled to add it to this list, because what American can rightfully said they’ve never had at least one whole Awesome Blossom in their life?

Chili’s Chicken Crisper Tacos (3 pc)

chipotle-crispy-tacos

source

Calories: 2020
Fat (g): 104
Saturated Fat (g): 25
Sugar: n/a
Sodium(mg): 6050
Price: $8.99
Calories per $1.00: 225

The ‘Crisper Tacos, while relatively low in the saturated fat department, make up for this by  having an extremely high calorie and sodium count. Probably best avoided, in favor of a water and some raw veggies…

Outback Steakhouse Aussie Cheese Fries

aussiefries2

source

Calories: 2710
Fat (g): 203

Saturated Fat (g): 25
Sugar: n/a
Sodium(mg): 6360
Price: $6.99
Calories per $1.00: 388

This “aussie-tizer” features more sodium and more fat than any other item still known to be featured on a menu. It is also offers more calories per $1, than any other food we could find.

Baskin Robbin’s Large Oreo Chocolate Shake

oreoshake11

source

Calories:
2600
Fat (g): 135
Saturated Fat (g): 59
Sugar (g): 263
Sodium (mg): 1700
Price: $6.99
Calories per $1.00: 372

Named by Men’s Health as the worst food item in the world, this shake is embarrassingly unhealthy. You can expect BR to remove it from their menu by year’s end.

Cold Stone Creamery’s Gotta Have it Founder’s Favorite

coldstones-founders11

Calories: 1600
Fat (g): 52
Saturated Fat (g): 42
Sugar (g): 84
Sodium (mg): 280
Price: $5.99
Calories per $1.00: 267

While relatively better than the Oreo shake, this desert is still ridiculously high in saturated fat: 42grams! Don’t give into this tasty treat’s subliminally advertised name; it actually ought be avoided.

Macaroni Grill Spaghetti and Meatballs with Meat Sauce

macaronigrillmeatballs11

source

Calories: 2430
Fat (g): 128
Saturated Fat (g): n/a
Sugar (g): n/a
Sodium (mg): 5290
Price: $ 10.79
Calories per $1.00: 225

This is just wrong.

On the Border Dos XX Fish Tacos with Chipotle Sauce, Refried Beans and Rice

Calories: 2440
Fat (g): 159
Saturated Fat (g): 36
Sugar (g): n/a
Sodium (mg): 5390
Price: $12.99
Calories per $1.00: 188

These beer-battered tacos are bad on so many levels. They constitute more than an individual’s daily caloric intake, more than 2x the suggested daily fat intake, and over 2x as much sodium as a healthy adult should consume in a day.

Ruby Tuesday Fresh Chicken and Broccoli Pasta

Calories: 2060
Fat (g): 128
Saturated Fat (g): n/a
Sugar (g): n/a
Sodium (mg): n/a
Price: $11.99
Calories per $1.00: 172

“Fresh Chicken and Broccoli” sound like adjectives to describe a healthy meal. It is however, the dubious name of a pasta dish at the Ruby Tuesday restaurant chain. And they all but fail to mention the overwhelming layer of cheese on the dish - read the fine print!

Quizno’s Large Tuna Melt

tunamelt21

source

Calories: 2090
Fat (g): 175
Saturated Fat (g): 31
Sugar (g): n/a
Sodium (mg): 2190
Price: $5.99
Calories per $1.00: 349

Talk about pulling the wool over the public’s eyes; tuna melts are supposed to be healthy. At Quizno’s they are not. But somehow this is featured on the brand’s healthy eating menu. Questionable…

Uno Chicago Grill’s Pizza Skins

pizza-skins1

source

Calories: 2400
Fat (g): 155
Saturated Fat (g): 50
Sugar (g): n/a
Sodium (mg): 3600
Price: $9.29
Calories per $1.00: 258

In terms of grams of fat, this is one of the worst items for you in America. If you are going to eat this, try to share it with some friends…about 6-8 of them.

The Cheesecake Factory Chris’ Outrageous Chocolate Cake

img_4359

source

Calories: 1380
Fat (g): n/a
Saturated Fat (g): n/a
Sugar (g): n/a
Sodium (mg): n/a
Price: $7.56
Calories per $1.00: 183

What is more outrageous about this cake: the price, or how bad it is for you? Much like Outback, The Cheesecake Factory is not open about the nutritional information for many of their food items. A good rule of thumb is do not eat something if you do not know how bad it is for you.

Chili’s Smokehouse Bacon Triple-the-Cheese Big Mouth Burger with Jalapeno Ranch Dressin

chilistripleburger2

source

Calories: 2040
Fat (g): 150
Saturated Fat (g): 53
Sugar (g): n/a
Sodium (mg): 4900
Price: $8.99
Calories per $1.00: 227

One of the best indicators that something is bad for you, is when in the name are these three words in succession:”triple” and “the cheese”. With that said, it’s no wonder this item has more than double what The American Heart Association recommends for daily sodium intake (2400).

Outback Steakhouse Baby Back Ribs – Full Rack

babyback

source

Calories: 2260
Fat (g): n/a
Saturated Fat (g): n/a
Sugar (g): n/a
Sodium (mg): n/a
Price: $18.49
Calories per $1.00: 122

“I want my ‘baby back, baby back, baby back…”, is most likely what you’ll be signing if you find yourself eating this on a regular basis. The only problem, is that it will be in reference to your boyfriend/girlfriend/spouse that left you due to your gaining a ton of weight. When I spoke to an Outback manager about the nutritional data, all he could do was advise against ordering the ribs if I was concerned about my diet.

Uno Chicago Grill Chicago Classic Deep Dish Pizza

deepdishpizza1

source

Calories (g): 2310
Fat (g): 162
Saturated Fat (g): 63
Sugar (g): n/a
Sodium (mg): 4470
Price: $10.59
Calories per $1.00: 218

This is one of the fattiest food items on this list. Although the pizza referenced in this study is meant for two people, it is not uncommon for an individual to have a ‘personal’ pizza to their self. So, it’s not just a clever name. This ‘pie definitely scores scores extremely high in fat, saturated fat, and sodium: eat at your own peril.

P.F. Chang’s Tam’s Noodles

tamsnoodles11

source

Calories: 1678
Fat (g): 93
Saturated Fat (g): 17
Sugar (g): n/a
Sodium (mg): n/a
Price: $8.95
Calories per $1.00: 187

Asian food is sometimes deceptively unhealthy. This item is case-in-point.

Chili’s Buffalo Chicken Fajitas with The Works

buffalo1

source

Calories: 1730
Fat (g): 117
Saturated Fat (g): 31
Sugar (g): n/a
Sodium (mg): 5690
Price: Calories per $1.00: 173

This pseudo-Mexican feast is super high in fat, and is off the charts in terms of sodium.

Carls Jr. Double Six Dollar Burger

carljr_burger

source

Calories: 1520
Fat (g): 111
Saturated Fat (g): 44
Sugar (g): n/a
Sodium (mg): n/a
Price: $6.49
Calories per $1.00: 234

Even though these sandwiches now typically go for more than $6.00 - even though the original burger’s name a stab at ‘expensive burgers’ a few years ago - it packs quite the caloric bang for your buck. At 234 calories per $1, it is towards the higher end of the spectrum. Unfortunately for many, because of the negative publicity this sandwich has received in the last year or so, it has been largely pulled from Carls Jr. menus.

My interview with The Script on Fox 19

April 10, 2009

I have driven myself into the ground lol

Driving-me-crazy

I have been sick for about a week with Flu like symptoms. I have a good idea of what caused it. Probably a result of lack of sleep, being on the go constantly and trying to make sure everybody else is happy lol. I need to learn to say NO more often.

I am not complaining at all just facing the cold hard facts of life and living a healthy life. We all need to set priorities and make sure we take care of our health and those that we love. We all need to make sure we dont get caught up in the day to day craziness and that we pause and enjoy our lives and cherish each day!  :-)

Here is something I found online @suite101.com that is kind of simple but I believe could be helpful.

The Need to Rest, Sleep, and Relax

Essentially, rest is the curtailment of energy expenditures that allows the body to redirect energies to restoration. Sometimes even a night’s sleep may be inadequate, probably due to a particularly stressful day, an emotional crisis in life, or a strenuous physical activity. When you become drowsy, you certainly need rest. A nap, even for five or ten minutes, will help you revitalize.

Human Body Limitations

Body limitations should never be taken for granted. How often we neglect to respect and appreciate the fundamental law of life – that bodies have a finite supply of energies. These are the same energies that allow the senses for use - to work, to breathe fresh air, to eat, to exercise, to make love, to laugh and play, and to smell the aroma of good coffee. Each body part has a limited amount of functioning power that can be reduced or increased at any time.

Hope you have an awesome Easter Weekend with those you love!

Random thoughts...Jillian Michaels, TV and more

Jillmet

I interviewed Jillian Michaels about her new Book called "Master your Metabolism" earlier today and will have a link up tomorrow or by Friday at the latest where you can hear what she had to say about the role hormones play in your weight loss and what she has to say about this season of the Biggest Loser. She called it the "season from hell." I love talking to her and she was a great interview as usual.

Behind_the_hits

I have mentioned here recently that I have been working on a new series for Fox19 tv here in Cincinnati. Well two "Behind the Hits" segments have aired and I will post links tomorrow for both so you can check them out if you want. Fox19 has started a "Behind the Hits" page on their website. Click here to see that. RIght now it has a bunch of pictures of me with the artists that I have interviewed including Natasha Bedingfield, Flo-Rida, Elliot Yamin and others. There is also 12 or 13 minutes worth of raw interview footage with Tom from Plain White T's there as well.

IMG_3676

I had a couple of interviews yesterday for both radio and tv. The first was with Kevin Rudolf (let it rock) and Parachute (she is love). Kevin was very cool and I loved the Parachute guys...I laughed hard with them. They sound like a cross between The Fray, Coldplay and Jason Mraz.

Hope you are having a great day!

I have been a very bad blogger...I have also been a very busy boy :-) I am sorry for my absence. It has been very sweet of those of you that I have received comments or emails from ...wondering where I had disappeared to?

Excited_man_2
  • Weight Loss and Maintenance: I have been doing really well in this area. I made lifetime this past Thursday. I needed to be between 210 and 217 and I weighed in at WW at 213. I also finally got to go to my normal WW meeting and it was awesome seeing everybody. Our amazing leader Sue is still out after her hip replacement surgery. She emailed me today and let me know she would be back in May and I can't wait to see her again. She is not only our leader and an unbelievable inspiration but someone that truly cares and I am lucky to have landed in her meetings.
Traderjoes
  • My new favorite food: I have talked about in the past how I get into ruts with certain foods and I am in one now that I love! lol It is Mandarin Orange Chicken from Trader Joes. It is AWESOME and only 4 points per serving. It is also really easy to prepare. I saw it on a Trader Joes food list on Tina's blog a while back.
Weightlifting
  • Workouts: I have been doing pretty good but not amazing with my workouts. I am sick right now with the flu. Last week I weight trained 2x and did cardio 3x. I am seeing results with the weight training and need to step it up! Terry is the best trainer in Cincinnati and if you live here in town and need a personal trainer call Terry at 513 793 PUMP.
Q102 Fox19_logo

  • Work at Q102 and Fox 19: Doing a new feature for both Radio and TV called "Behind the Hits" I am doing two dif versions the one for Q102 radio (where I work) is  long form interviews with bands. Ever feel like alien?

Alien

Over the past few weeks I have been going to various ww meetings because of my work schedule. I normally go to a meeting here in Cincinnati on Thursday mornings and over the past year have grown comfortable and excited about the meeting and the people in Blue Ash on Thursday mornings.

So....In going to other meetings ...It is strange but I have felt like an outsider. Is this a normal feeling? have you ever experienced this feeling or sensation? No one was rude or anything like that but I just felt out of place.

I am going to my normal meeting this Thursday and will step on the scale to try hit lifetime. As of today I am right where I need to be actually a couple of pounds under goal for lifetime.

Hope you are having a great week so far!

NYC on St. Pattys Day

Earlier this week my girlfriend Missy and I went to NYC for 24 hours. It was a very short trip that will supply memories for a lifetime. We packed a lot into the trip. The weather was beautiful, we walked a lot in the city and took tons of pictures. We had an awesome day and night. It was also my first chance to see my favorite new band "The Script."

The cd has been #1 in thirteen countries so far and they just released it here in the states on St. Patricks day. They are a VERY special band. I have been doing this a very long time and I can honestly say that if they do not become one of the BIG stories in 2009 here in America I will lose faith in the music business. btw...We met the guys and they couldn't be any nicer and I had high hopes for the live show after listening to the cd since last fall. The exceeded my expectations...it was one of the best live shows I have ever seen!

Here a few pictures from our trip to NYC.

One more week til lifetime...

Next week will be my sixth week on maintenance. Has it been easy? ummmm...NO! But neither was losing the weight. I know deep in my heart that I am going to always have to watch what I eat. I also know I feel better now than I can ever remember feeling in my life, so if I have to watch what I stuff into my pie hole :-) ...thats ok. Weight Watchers and Sue my awesome leader have taught me skills to last a lifetime.

I haven't been to my normal Thursday Blue Ash meeting in about three weeks I have been hitting other meetings because of my work schedule :-(  I really miss my blue ash gang. I am going t try to make it this coming thursday. I have taken on a new segment at Fox 19 and it has been keeping me really busy. Beginning this Monday morning I am doing a feature called "Behind the Hits" it is an artist interview segment that I am hosting. :-) The people at Fox are awesome to work with and I very excited about this new project.

Natasha013

They will air on Monday mornings on The Fox 19 morning show with Rob and Shelia and on Friday nights during the Ten O'Clock news. The first few artists include Flo-rida, Elliot Yamin , Plain White T's, The Script and this Monday's Behind the Hits will my conversation with Natasha Bedingfield

Random thoughts...watch me eat, nyc and Natasha Bedingfield

Hey I hope you are having a great weekend. A few things on my mind this morning. It seems like now more than ever that are never nearly enough hours in the days to get everything done. I feel like I have been slacking here with my WW blog and that bothers me. Blogging has been one of the important keys to my weight loss success.

Obsessive

As far as Weight Watchers...I am in that six week maintenance period where at the sixth week I have to be with that "7" pound window to achieve lifetime status. :-)  Right now I am two pounds under my goal weight which is good. I still have BIG concerns about the "7" pound window and  that it will become a mega-head game for me and that I will become obsessive on a daily basis on staying within that window.

Apple

What I want in life as far as my weight is concerned is to only be healthy. I do not want to be a slave to a number or numbers. I am really happy for the first time in my life with where I am at. WW has taught me what I need to know and for the first time I KNOW I can keep the weight off for the rest of my life. I am so thankful for ww, I have often said that weight watchers has been a lifesaver for me and it has been!

Fork

I had a very odd experience the other day that I am sure many of you can relate to. I was having lunch with a business associate and he had many questions on how I have lost the weight. I love answering questions for anyone that wants to lose weight BUT what I noticed is that when I picked up the salt and pepper to lightly sprinkle some on my small PLAIN baked potato he looked at me with horror lol. he then proceeded to watch every time I picked up my fork. It was just odd to watch someone's reaction and disbelief that I could lose 130 pounds and eat such a bad food for me lol. It was a bit distracting.

The-script-talk-you-down-lyrics

I am really excited about a quick trip I am going on this week. My girlfriend and I are flying to NYC for St. Pattys day. We are staying at a very cool / fun hotel and seeing one of my favorite new bands called The Script. If you are not familiar with The Script, they sound like a cross between The Fray, Maroon 5 and Gym Class Hero's. They have had 3 top 10 songs in Europe and are just now breaking here in the States. Check them out on MTV, VH1 or I-Tunes. Not sure but Much Music may be playing them for my Canadian friends :-)  We are also playing them on the radio station I work at Q102 Cincinnati.

Natasha016

We (Q102) had a couple of great events over the past few days. Natasha Bedingfield was in town and we raised thousands for Susan G. Komen on Thursday night at Jefferson Hall. She performed an acoustic set , did a question and answer session with the audience and I interviewed her for Fox TV.

The following day Laura (my on air radio co-host) and I hosted a Disney event at Seton High School for 1000 kids with Natasha. She is such a sweet person and a great singer. I have interviewed her a number of times and I always walk away impressed.

ok ...I just looked at the clock and I have to get ready for work. It is Saturday and today I am a judge for an open casting call that Cirque Du Soleil is doing here today...should be interesting ;-)

I hope you are at a great place in life and that you have an awesome weekend!

No such thing as a quick fix

Custom-bank-teller-cabinetry

I walked into the bank yesterday and I had shorts and a t-shirt on (its almost spring time here) the friendly teller behind the counter made a comment that I had lost a lot of weight. I said thank you and she started asking me a bunch of questions.

I never bring up my weight loss however if someone asks me about how I did it I will talk for days about Weight Watchers. It has been a lifesaver for me.

She asked :

  • Have you been working out a lot? (5 days a week)
  • Did you have to change the way you eat (yes)
  • Do you feel better? (YES)
  • How much have you lost? (130 lbs)
  • She said "So those commercials on tv late at night about losing weight working out just ten minutes a week and not changing your diet aren't true?" (NO!!!) I hate those infomercials about how you don't have to change the way you eat or take some magical pill and the weight just falls off of you. What a load of crap!
  • So how did you lose the weight? ( i told her all about ww) I also explained to her that i had battled my weight all my life but I now know that I can keep it off for the rest of my life.

Like I said I never bring up my weight loss to anyone but I am always willing to share how if asked. I also made her aware that just walking in the doors at your ww center is not enough BUT once you make up your mind to lose...starting ww is the smartest decision that you can ever make. Tons of support, help and all information that you could ever need.

March 07, 2009

I took advantage of...

...the weather :-) It is a beautiful day here Sunshine and 74 degrees! The nicest day of the year by far.

Sky3

I went out back and took my bicycle out of storage and went for an amazing ride. It is funny we had snow here less than two weeks ago and yet today it seems so far away. :-)  I know many of you (like Chantelle in Australia) have been enjoying warm weather for quite sometime now but I am like a little kid today.

Bike

I also learned something while out riding ...I had forgot just what great cardio riding a bike is. I do cardio 5 or 6 days a week on a treadmill, nothing crazy just a brisk walk. The thing I remembered or learned again today was that the bike really works a lot of different muscles including my quads :-)

If the weather is nice where you are today, and I hope it is...get out and take a walk, ride a bike or just step outside and soak up every sight, sound, breeze and more that you encounter. Have a great rest of the weekend!

Random thoughts...Weigh in, Maintenance, Pressures and more...

Starting maintenance? I found out something that I wasn't aware of when starting the six week maintenance period at WW. When I got the Dr's. note about my healthy weight, I was told I could no more than 2 pounds higher or 5 pounds lower than the number. I thought that meant for the next six weeks I had a seven pound window that I had to stay within to qualify for lifetime.

I feel a little stupid because Thursday morning I knew I was close to going under by five pounds. I was worried that if I was under more than 5 pounds... I would have start all over again and blow my chance at lifetime. SO I was drinking tons of water and eating before my meeting. I never eat or drink the morning of my meeting lol.I ended up gaining 0.8 and felt good about that. I had drank 20 oz of water just before the meeting.

WELL..what I didn't understand that over the next six they expect my weight to fluctuate and it was only in that sixth week that I had to be within the 7 pound window to achieve lifetime.

Worry2

I have achieved a lot in this past year and have dealt with many demons associated with weight loss including scale obsessions, body image and more. The thing I am wondering will my "7" pound window be my next "obsession / stress inducer?" Please don't get me wrong this is not me complaining but I am at  great place in my life and I just want to be healthy not obsessed with a number. Does any of this make sense?

My thought is that I will continue to pay for WW, because I know it is one of the big keys to my living a healthy lifestyle among others.

IMG_3480

On an entirely different note...I took a day of vacation yesterday and my girlfriend Missy and I drove down to Lexington Kentucky to see Nickelback, Seether and Saving Abel in concert. We had an amazing time and if the concert plays in your town or anywhere near you go and check it out...You will love it! I hope you are in the middle of a great weekend too!

I am grateful

So when I last left ya...I had gone to my Doctor and she signed off on a healthy weight for me :-)  I took my Drs. note to the meeting and I am now at goal. It was a great feeling and everyone in the group at Blue Ash WW was so sweet!!

As of today I have lost a total of 128.6 :-) This past Saturday was my one year anniversary of starting Weight Watchers and it has changed my life. My life has never been better in every aspect and for that I am so grateful.

I am now into the equally hard phase of learning how to maintain for the rest of my life. So far that has been very challenging. Its like a weekly game in trying to figure out the correct amount of points along with my exercise to maintain, It is a challenge I am up for. :-)

By going to the Dr. and getting a note the stipulation is that I have to do the maintenance period for six weeks and then I become a "lifetime" member. I cannot go over more than 2 pounds over or 5 under my Dr recommended healthy weight to keep my status with WW.

If you are reading this and think that your goal is so far away just know that you CAN do this! When I started I wanted to lose 100 pounds and it seemed so far away but from the day I started I never looked back and with the help of so many people and a lot of focus and determination I have reached my goal. Just believe in yourself and you will achieve!

Ten minutes with Jillian Michaels

Jillian-michaels
I recently had the chance to talk to Jillian Michaels from the Biggest Loser for my Q102 radio show.

Click here to listen to the interview.

I have always admired and loved both she and Bob for what they do but I have a whole new respect for her...listen to the interview and what she tells me about her schedule...I should never complain about being busy! lol

Briansigniture

I went to the Dr. and got some great news!

Doctor I have been struggling to figure out not only the maintenance thing but really wanting to reach lifetime with WW...read not having to pay the $40 a month to ww lol. According to the government guidelines I need to weigh between 165 (what????) and 205 and I am nearly 6'4". I started at 340 pounds and recently got down to 209 and I honestly want to stay between 210 and 215 for the rest of my life.

I am still not clear on all of the WW rules on this but I was told if I went to my MD she could sign off on a healthy weight for me and when I achieve that weight that I would become a lifetime member :-)  Well my DR was thrilled with my results and signed off on 215 pounds as a healthy goal weight for me. I was at 213 pounds last week :-)  So when I go in  for my weigh in tomorrow I am going to take my little note and hopefully start my lifetime of even more healthy WW days!

Do you know how the Dr's note version of Lifetime works? I have heard that there are a few things that are different from regular lifetime goal.

Thanks and I hope you are having a great week so far!

Random picture from work today with Erin McCarley

IMG_3448 Here's a music tip for ya. Her name is Erin McCarley her cd is called "Love save the empty" I really like her. If you enjoy singer / songwriter types you will really enjoy Erin.

She appeared on the Tonight Show last week and Letterman the month before. SHe was in town last night for a concert that my girlfriend and I attended and she also stopped by the radio station yesterday for an interview.

If you have seen the movie "He's just not that into you" Erin's song "Love save the empty appears in the final scene.

Whats important in life?

Important

This may seem like a random generic question that we have heard most of our lives but...Honestly what really matters in this life??? I would offer up that aside from our health...which we are all working on or trying to improve that the answer is family and friends.

This point was recently driven home to me by the tragic event that happened in Buffalo NY last week. 50 people lost there lives when the flight crashed just miles away from the airport. It made me reexamine my priorities and motivations in my day to day life. I feel I usually have a good grip on just how fortunate that I am but it never hurts to keep yourself in check.

I am blessed with amazing children that give me more through just the slightest smile than I could ever possibly give them, a girlfriend that has entered into my life and shown me what I have been missing for most of my adult life, an outrageously awesome job with the best company in the radio industry and my co-workers who are more than that they are my friends.

I have worked really hard over the past year to improve my health and honestly cannot ever remember feeling this good...ever. There have been so many factors in my losing the weight and getting in better health I wont bore you with the long list but I am so thankful for the weight watchers group in blue ash here in Cincinnati, my family, friends and every single one of you who continually offer support in ways that you don't even know that keep me motivated. Thanks for checking out my blog and please keep the families of those lost in Buffalo in your thoughts and prayers.

Excited about interviewing Jillian Michaels

Jillian-michaels-fitness-ultimatum I found out a couple of days ago that this morning at 10:30 (eastern) I am interviewing Jillian Michaels from The Biggest Loser. She will be promoting two new dvd's Jillian Michaels:  No More Trouble Zones and Jillian Michaels: Banish Fat Boost Metabolism. I will be giving away a couple of copies of the dvds when I receive them next week here on my blog.

I am also going to use the interview to ask for help with my weight loss journey. I know it selfish but hey I am struggling with maintanence lol. The interview will air during my radio show on Monday at 6:10p (e). I will also post the interview here when I finish editing it this weekend.

I am a huge fan of both Jillian and Bob Harper from the show. One week from tomorrow will be my one year anniversary of starting WW and I love The Biggest Loser. Jillian and Bob are both big inspirations to me, so thats why I am a little geeky about doing the interview lol.

I went to my ww yesterday and as always it was great to see everybody. I have been struggling figuring out maintenance. My previous post detailed losing 3.4 gaining 4.0 but this week was a little better, I lost 1.6. I just want to get to the point where I can even it out a little more. I am at a VERY happy weight and I am just under where I want to remain as far as my weight.

I was on the phone with my girlfriend Missy last night and told her that one of the things I really admire about her is that she has no clue what she weighs nor does she jump on the scale everyday. She is in great shape and her goal is to just be healthy. I am closer to that same way of thinking. I actually threw  out my home scale out this week. I just won't let a number on a scale determine my mood (hourly lol).

I hope you have a VERY Happy Valentines Day!

Just when I think I have it figured out...

Maintenance

Well first things first...I am sorry I haven't posted in a over a week. I love my blog friends here and read yours faithfully. Life has been even more hectic than usual recently...Its all good just crazy. I have been working on special projects at the radio station with The Grammys and different blogs. I also have been in discussions on a new project for Fox 19 TV. I am very excited...I have been doing Cd reviews for the Fox 19 Morning Show with Rob and Shelia for quite sometime but now I am going to do a artist interview segment that I think is going to be really cool! More details to come.

So the title of this post "Just when I think I have it figured out" refers to my last month trying to figure out WW Maintenance...I reached a happy weight a few weeks ago and wanted to stop losing...Here are my last 5 weeks:

  • -3.0
  • -0.2
  • -3.4
  • -0.4
  • +4.0

I freaked out two weeks ago when I dropped 3.4 so I added more points and slowed my workouts down a little and then lost 0.4 the next week. That felt great but the next week I GAINED 4.0 lol I have heard maintenance was going to be hard and I am finding out that it is. I am as motivated as ever and now weigh 213 pounds my happy weight was set in my mind at 215 so I have my fingers crossed for this week. Anyone have any maintenance help or ideas??? Thanks in advance.

I wanted to say Thank you to those who e-mailed me "wondering where I was at or if everything was ok?" I am sorry I hadn't posted in over a week. My life has never been better...I am a very blessed man with amazing kids, an awesome girlfriend, great friends, and a wonderful job that I have never dreaded going to one single day.

 IMG_3399

I mentioned in the previous post that I had a great weekend. I went with my girlfriend Missy and another couple to the mountains in Gatlinburg, Tennessee where we rented a chalet. It was very chilled and I still cant get the smile off my face thinking about the weekend. I hope you are having a great start to your week and that your weekend was memorable as well.

Briansigniture

New post later today...

I am a very bad maybe even naughty blogger :-)  I just noticed that it has been 8 days since my last post, I am sorry and I will do a new blog entry later today. Life is better than ever, just even more hectic than it normally is.

I have been struggling with learning the maintenance side of WW and have been losing and gaining. Two weeks ago I lost 3.4 pounds and this week I gained 4.0 pounds but it was a great week in my ww world...I promise to explain later today. I hope you had a great weekend, I had one to remember for a VERY long
time :-)

Trying new things, a great book and my wi

DSCN0262 Hi my name is Brian and I am a creature of habit especially when it comes to food. Over the past couple of months though I have really tried to expand my food horizons. I have never been accused of being adventurous when it comes food until now :-) Seafood is not my thing but I always knew it was good for me, I have asked Missy to make me try new things.

I have recently tried and liked Tilapia, Scallops, Goat cheese and artichoke pizza, Cod and last night it was Missy's birthday and I tried and really liked Skatefish. This may not seem that out there for a lot of you but until the past two months I had NEVER ordered any seafood or eaten anything with goat cheese in my life lol. All that to say if your burned out on everything you are eating expand your horizons and try something outside of your comfort zone...you may even like it.

Are-You-Ready-Bob-Harper-abridged-compact-discs-Random-House-Audiobooks I love the Biggest Loser show. I find  many inspirational things watching the show.  I also really admire both of the trainers on the show Bob Harper and Jillian Michaels. I recently picked up Bob's book called "Are you Ready?" Half of the book is illustrated exercises shown by Bob but the reason I bought the book was for Bob's insight, positive outlook and his story.

It is a quick read and I really like it. The title refers to the simple question...Are you really ready..to improve your health? Bob also deals with our inner compass, baggage, loving yourself, moving beyond fear and blame, accepting who you are and forgiving and a lot more.

130 My weigh in this past Thursday went well. I lost 0.4 pounds and now I have lost a total of 130.2 total.

btw if you are a fan of The Fray they are going to be on the air with me tomorrow (monday 2/2) at 530p eastern. If you live near Cincinnati you can hear the interview on my radio show at Q102. You can also listen online at wkrq.com.

Thanks and I hope you have an awesome week!

New Music...The Fray , All American Rejects, The Script and more...

ImageChef.com - Custom comment codes for MySpace, Hi5, Friendster and more

As you may or may not know I am  very passionate about music. I am the music director for Q102 Cincinnati where I work. From time to time I like to share some of my new favorites. Here are my latest:

All American Rejects "Gives you hell" I LOVE THIS SONG!!! :-)

The Fray...their new new self titled cd is in stores one week from today and I have a early copy and it is so good!!! If you loved The Fray's first cd you will love this one. It is a really cool and natural progression form the first one. Great lyrics, awesome vocals and a little more tempo this time around.

Shinedown "Second Chance" great new single - mid tempo rocker

If you like...Maroon 5, Sting...put them together in my opinion you come up with The Script. This is a band that we have been playing for quite sometime I found them through a friend that works in radio in London. They are already a really big deal in the UK and they will be a big deal here as well :-) You can buy the cd on I-Tunes now.

Lady Gaga
"Poker Face" next single from the artist that had a #1 song with "Just Dance"

The Veronica's
"Untouched" LOVE THIS SONG!

Those are just a few of the new things that I love right now! Hope you are having a great day. We are getting a total of 8-12" of snow, sleet and rain here in Cincinnati.

Short and Sweet :-)

Short post today...I am headed out with Missy and some other friends tonight for dinner and then to see Taylor Hicks from American Idol in a late night concert. I interviewed Taylor the other day and Missy and I saw him in Grease. He is  a great dude and we are looking forward to seeing the concert.

I had my weigh in and got to see everybody at the Blue Ash WW this past Thursday. It had been a few weeks since I had been to my regular meeting and it was awesome seeing everybody. We have one of the most supportive and fun groups in our meetings. There is nobody drinkin HATER-aid lol at our meetings and our leader Sue is the BEST! If you live in the Cincinnati area and are searching for a great meeting join us Thursday mornings 9:30 at Blue Ash.

I didn't track this week for the first time in a very long time and I didn't eat enough. I lost 3.4 lbs for a total of 129.8 lost.  So it goes to show you tracking is important for both losing and maintaining. I tried to keep it in my head but I obviously didn't do a good job. I am at a happy weight that I now want to maintain. I am nearly 6'4" and 210. The government says I should weigh between 165 and 205.

January 22, 2009

Random late night thoughts...

It's after 12 midnight and I should be sleeping but I can't. It's not because of stress or anything bad, its actually quite the opposite...Life is so good and I am so thankful.

Cantsleep

Last week I had severe laryngitis and I have my voice back thanks to an amazing doctor. In my line of work my voice is so very important. I am also very thankful for my kids...my son Zack turns 16 (YIKES) today :-)  I also have someone that recently came into my life and has changed what I believed was already a  charmed life and made it even better.  I am also blessed with some amazing friends. I also have such respect for all my WW friends that help me on a daily basis on my weight loss journey. Thank you!

Later this morning at 9:30a I head to my WW meeting in Blue Ash, I am really looking forward to seeing everybody because of Holidays and me not feeling well I haven't seen the gang it seems like in forever. I did weigh in this past Saturday and lost 0.2 lbs for a total lost of 126.4.

IMG_3313

I interviewed former American Idol Taylor Hicks this morning, He was great and talked about American Idol, How he has been living out of three suit cases for the past 3 years and what it is like playing the teen angel in Grease.  Missy and I went to see Grease last night the Aronoff Center and really enjoyed it!

It's not a setback...

A couple of things on my mind today...

IMG_2279

From time to time people come into our lives and change us... or change parts of us for the better. I recently met someone who has had that affect on me. She kind of puts things into a more clear perspective. I have really struggled this week with some things. I'm not looking for pity just want to try to explain something that was said to me and really had an impact on me.

I have been sick for parts of the last two weeks. Last week with the flu bug and then with severe laryngitis. It required a throat and voice specialist to prescribe steroids and they worked...really worked and I went from a whisper to almost having my entire voice back within the week.

Here is where I struggled...one of the side effects of the steroids is weight gain. I  knew that I would gain , heck I even wrote about it in a post but I got on the scale (mistake) a couple of nights ago and had gained 7 pounds...it hit me like a ton of bricks.

In a conversation with Missy (that I mentioned above) I let her know about the 7 pounds and she said something that made so much sense to me but I hadn't thought of, she said "You need to realize and be able to separate the fact that it (7lbs) was not a "set back", rather just a side effect to which you had NO control over.:-)

She gave me a new way of looking at the situation and helped me so much more than she even knows. I have since finished the steroids and I am only up 1 pound as of tonight as I write this.  I just wanted to share this snapshot of my life in hopes that maybe if you are dealing with meds and see weight gain, what she said to me might help you too.

Fatsecret

On a totally different subject but something that a friend helped me with this week...when you get off the elevator at the radio station where I work you meet a smiling person named Sally. She is awesome and very helpful...she is also a weight watcher and she turned me onto a great website that helps with nutritional information and pretty much anything you need to know about food. Check fatsecret.com out by clicking here.

Thank you for checking out my blog and I hope you have an awesome weekend!

Snow, Steroids and American Idol

Snow

It is snowing like crazy outside my window right now, I am not a big fan of snow but this somehow pretty.

It is kind of dancing and glistening on top of my lawn under the street lights. Its real freakin pretty until I have to drive in it tomorrow morning lol ;-)

Medrol_dosepak_44008 I am a very thankful guy today. I could list a 100 reasons that I am thankful but I am really thankful because I am finally really starting to feel better. I came down with a cold early last week and over the weekend I developed severe laryngitis. I went to a Throat specialist on Monday and they prescribed steroids for the inflammation in my vocal chords. They have worked wonders and I am probably back to about 75%.

Ameridollogo
The past few days I wasn't allowed to speak aside from my radio show and the tv stuff I do.  Last night we had a blast, we were live from Bar Louie for an American Idol pre-party and I did television during the 630 and 10p Fox 19 news. I LOVED last night's American Idol.  Looking forward to watching tonight and seeing the auditions from Kansas City.

The only thing I know for sure is that I am going to gain weight from the steroids. That is one of the side effects. Oh well I make my living with my throat and if the steroids affect my weight for one week thats ok. My weigh in is tomorrow morning and I will let you know how that goes lol

Hope you are having a great day!

Frustrated but I did see a great concert last night :-)

A few random thoughts today...

Sore_Throat * I have been off the radio since last Wednesday with what started out as a cold and now has turned into severe laryngitis. I went in for my music meeting at work this morning. After the meeting I drove to Dayton, Ohio to see an amazing throat/vocal specialist. She stuck this video camera thing down my throat and explained everything to me and she was awesome.

Now I have my fingers crossed that the steroids she prescribed work miracles. I really want t go back on the radio tomorrow and I am Fox 19 tv tomorrow night during the 630p news and then back on tv Wednesday morning.  I am on vocal rest aside from radio and tv for now too.

I

DSCN0172

* On a really positive note... I went to an amazing concert last night...AC/DC, If they come to your town or somewhere near you ...just go...but one word of warning take ear plugs.

A good friend of mine who works for their record company told me in advance that it was the loudest concert he had ever been to.  I am thankful I knew to take earplugs lol . Missy and I went and had an awesome night!

Oprah

* Oprah today was really good (remember I am off work, watching Oprah lol) Today was a follow up to her "Best Life" series she did all last week.

The part that I loved and learned from was about people that have fallen off the weight loss wagon. We have all done it at some point in our lives,

The guy who lost 200+ pounds on the Biggest Loser was on and he had fallen off the wagon and gained over 100 back but was inspired and working to take off the weight again. All that to say if you tivo'd Oprah today make sure you watch it :-)

I hope you are having a great start to your week!!! :-)

Answer to an e-mail

Email

I received an email from a reader who has done awesome things already and wanted to know if I had any tips...here is his question and my response:

Brian,
I  have been reading your blog, and I must say, it is really inspirational. I have a lot of weight to lose. I am still 19lbs from where you started. Do you have any additional tips? I am blogging about this journey myself, so your blog is a good template for me.

Thank you,
Jared
_______________________________________________

Jared,

Thanks for the kind words! You asked about tips...You have already done so well! CONGRATS on all your loss so far.

As far as my approach...

  • I just try to always stay positive
  • I never totally deny myself, if I want something bad I have it and then get right back on the program.
  • I love WW, I feel the meetings are so important.
  • I never miss a weigh in. There have been times when I wanted to skip and I didn't ...keeps me honest.
  • WATER lots of water.
  • Activity when I started I really struggled but slow and steady effort has really paid off.
  • The weeks where I put the most effort into it. I get the most (results) out of it
  • I track everything as far as food goes. I buy those little 3 month journals.
  • When I get in a challenging place or hit a wall, I reach out to other bloggers who have already maybe hit the same obstacles and I ask for help.
  • Nothing ever tastes as good as losing weight feels
  • I have treated myself with non food rewards at weight loss milestones along the way.
  • I have learned to love myself and not be so hard on myself.
  • I look for at least one new food a week, I have a habit of eating the same foods all the time so I challenged myself to expand my universe.
  • If you dont own one yet get yourself an ipod or an mp3 player for when you exercise, music really helps me.

I could list a bunch more but I dont want ya to fall asleep reading this lol. Just know if the desire is in your heart...you can and will achieve every goal you desire!

Good luck!

Under the weather...

Underweather

"Under the weather" ...what the heck does that really mean? lol I guess you can say I have been under the weather for the past 4 days. I have had a cold or flu , missed work and been strapped to my bed until this morning :-)

Its really strange how it worked on my brain. Over the past year, I have conditioned myself to get up and head to the rec center and do cardio and most recently had added weight training. Well I was on the phone with a dear friend of mine earlier in the week and told her I was going to get up and do cardio and lift in the morning and she basically told me to keep my butt in bed :-) I did as she (the dr.) said and I am finally getting better and did cardio this morning on the treadmill. But the past few days have worn on me mentally, I felt I was really slacking. I need to learn and cut myself a break now and then...you know breathe deep and let my body heal without beating myself up.

I say all this to illustrate that the weight loss journey is a daily struggle but so worthwhile. I have learned so much in the past year and continue to learn everyday along the way. Here is to a very happy and healthy 2009!

btw at my weigh in this week I lost 3.0 pounds for a total loss of 126.2. Thanks for checking out my blog and I hope you are having a great weekend!

New music for workouts, being smart and thank you

ImageChef.com - Custom comment codes for MySpace, Hi5, Friendster and more

A couple of quick notes this morning. I want to say thank you for all the comments and emails I received on my last post. Your comments and support mean more to me than you know. They help me get through challenges that I encounter along the weight loss journey.

I am headed to weigh in this morning AND to the doctor. Half of the city here in Cincinnati is sick with a cold or flu and I am one of those lucky ones...I am going to see what the doctor can do.

Kinda funny how when we get into a groove with things in life we sometimes stop being smart :-)  A very dear friend of mine and I were on the phone last night and I have battling this cold for a couple of days and I said that I was going to do cardio and visit the doctor tomorrow. She then brought it to my attention that I shouldn't do the cardio because I would just stress my body out even more. I tell you this because I think sometimes we need to listen to our bodies more and react to what it is telling us and instead of being so bent on the routine even when it involves fitness.

New music
Here are a few new(er) things that I am listening to for my workouts recently:

Warm up / cool down
Saving Able "18 Days"
The Script "The man who can't be moved"
Leona Lewis "I will be"

Mid-Tempo
Pink "Sober"
Kanye West "Heartless"
Pussycat Dolls "I hate this part"
The Fray "You found me"
Lilly Allen "The fear"
Lucas Prata "Something about you"

Up Tempo
Hinder "Take it to the Limit" (rock)
Rev Theory "Hell yeah" (rock)
Rev Theory "Light it up" (rock)
Kings of Leon "Use somebody" (rock/pop)
Guru Josh Project "Infinity 2008" (dance)

Hope you are having a great week!

Hard post to write...

Why

This is a hard post for me to write in a way. This may sound crazy but I don't like talking about myself...crazy in that I never want to come off as "oh poor me" or come off as ungrateful. Over the past two months or so I have been struggling with a few things....

  • According to the government and its healthy weight guidelines I am supposed to weigh between 165 and 205 pounds. I am nearly 6'4" tall and I don't want to even weigh at the high end of the range. In order for me to go on maintenance (free) at ww I need to be within the guideline or get a note from my doctor saying that I have reached a healthy weight for my frame.
  • I have never revealed how much I weigh here for a variety of reasons lol. But I am feeling brave and here ya go...when I started WW I weighed 340 pounds and I have now lost 123.2 pounds so I now weigh 216 pounds. I want to maintain a weight of 215 to 220 pounds. I know that this is going to be just as much of a challenge or even harder than losing the weight has been.
  • One of the things that I am struggling with a lot ...is people saying not only "You really need to stop losing weight" or "You have lost too much." I don't see myself as anywhere near looking unhealthy or sick. Here are photos of when I started and what I look like now.
Bedec2007-1IMG_3023_2_2

  • Over the past two months I have been adding points every week to try and figure out how my body would react and then I could know exactly what I needed to do to maintain my happy weight. I had my weigh in this morning and I gained 3 ounces :-) I think at least for this week I have a clue on what I need to do points and activity wise to maintain.
  • The scale...In the past I have been a total freak about the scale and it was unhealthy. Over the past couple of months I have gotten past being addicted to the scale I am no longer basing my success or failure 5x a day on what the read out says. I will check it occasionally but I am good with not obsessing over it.
Sorry for the long post but I have just had a lot on my mind and some of the things I honestly dont know how to deal with. So I thought I would throw it out there, I have always been honest here about what is going on in my life as far as my weight loss journey.

2008 has been an amazing year and I look forward to a healthy 2009 not only for me but you as well!

Happy New Year!

Fit from within...

FitfromwithinWhen I am on the treadmill, I always find that if I am reading a magazine, a book or whatever the time goes by a lot faster. So I am always looking for the next thing to read.

"Fit from Within" is the title of a book I just finished reading and I really enjoyed it. No matter where we all are on our weight loss journey there are many things that we can relate to and learn from.

Here are just a few things that leaped out at me from the book:

* Get plenty of sleep - "sleepy people tend to be hungry people" It goes on to explain just how important the role sleep plays into weight loss. I know that the weeks that I get enough rest I tend to lose more weight. I know sleep isnt the only factor that contributes to my better weeks but it is something that I need to do more of. I am a night owl and an early riser. Not a good combo :-)

 * Stay Centered in Today - I recently had a friend tell me the same thing and it really resonated with me. We have to stay away from living in the past or saying I will start after... We need to live in the now. The book says "today is it, and what you do today is all that matters. Staying centered in the now keeps us aware of what we are doing. We will be less likely to eat absentmindedly. It also goes on to say "When you stay focused you will fully experience the day - its events, its sensations, its nuances. Life will become richer and more gratifying."

There are many other subjects in this quick read most chapters are only 2 or 3 pages long and I really enjoyed it and learned from it. Other chapter titles include: Wear clothes that fit in your current size, Do whatever it takes, Shop the produce section first, Let your body determine its right size and shape and many others.

I personally needed to read about self image and living in the now. I really struggle with self image I still see myself as the guy 123 pounds ago. I know in time my mind will catch up with the changes my body has gone through but for now I am reading everything i can find about the subject.

The book is called "Fit from Within" and it is written by Victoria Moran.

Hope you are having a great week so far!

First and foremost I want to wish everybody a very Merry Christmas!!! I hope that Santa hooked you up this morning :-) I had an awesome Christmas morning with the kids. They amaze me everyday and I am blessed to have them. We celebrated with my Mom and other family members last night. My mom is unfortunately an amazing cook lol.

Again, MERRY CHRISTMAS!!! I hope today is a very special day for you and the ones you love.

Hinder, weight training, a rockin weekend and more...

Hinder As usual a million thoughts running through my mind here are a few... Some of you asked me to blog about my trip this past weekend to Cleveland. I left Saturday morning for the four hour drive to see and interview one of my favorite bands Hinder. I had a GREAT time probably a little too good of a time if you know what I mean lol.

The guys from Hinder were amazing on stage , in the afternoon before the show They played a prvate acoustic show in the House of Blues Foundation room that I was invited to. There were about 20 people there and they rocked! I then went back and interviewed the guys.

Aside from being one of my favorite bands and they are just a great bunch of guys. it had been a year since I had seen them in person. I have known them since they first started touring and they made my day when I walked in backstage ...Austin the lead singer and the others said "they wouldn't have recognized me if the record rep hadn't told them who was getting ready to interview them."

Isn't that one of the best feelings...when you run into someone you havent seen in a while and they notice your weight loss?

Pain
I started weight training about 3 weeks ago and I wished I could say I LOVED it lol. I do feel great after I do it. I am weight training 3 days a week with a great trainer here in Cincinnati named Terry Bryan.

Since I started my weight loss journey I have done cardio 5-6 times a week and I just wanted to firm up so I added the weight training.

Cheatmeals Oh I almost forgot, I have had some of you email me and asked if I ever just go off the rails with food??? YES I do :-) We all do at times. This past weekend was one of those times. While out of town I had a couple of meals that tasted great.

Do I regret it??....NO. I normally eat very clean with the WW plan. In the past one or two meals would send me off on a food bender that would last a week ...a month or longer. Now I just start right back up and I know I will have to work a little bit harder to not show a gain. Because of Christmas falling on my normal wi day, I am going a day early (tomrrow/wednesday) I    am pretty sure my weekend will probably show up on the scale.lol

One of the things I have discovered through WW this year is that when in the past I have put myself in a diet box and denied myself any type of cheat meal what so ever I failed in my attempts at losing weight.

Weight Watchers and the support that we all share with each other has been a lifesaver for me.

This week's Wi and other fun...

I love the holidays not so much for all the gifty things (as a friend of mine calls it) but because the of the reaction on my kids faces , spending time with those I love and remembering the reason for the season. The holidays also mean we are usually in hyper mode and everybody is so BUSY. Make sure you take a deep breath (I am telling myself this too) and take in all the fun that can be experienced aside form the hustle and bustle.

My weigh in went well this week, I lost 1.2 and I have now lost a total of 121.4 pounds. I have been adding points and trying to find that magic number that will keep me maintaining. I really believe that the next phase (maintenance) is going to be as challenging as losing has been.

Had a fun day earlier , the radio station where I work hosted a lunch for winners with the band Saving Able. We had an awesome time, the band sounded great and the guys couldn't have been any nicer! If you are not familiar with Saving Able they have 2 current hits "Addicted" and "18 Days." Here is a pic from this afternoon with the guys and my good buddy Grover who is on before my show on the radio.

I hope you have had a great week and enjoy your weekend! I am headed to Cleveland tomorrow morning to hang out with the guys from "Hinder" they are playing the House of Blues in Cleveland tomorrow night. :-)

The Biggest Loser and even Oprah struggles...

Biggestloserlogo
Just finished watching the biggest loser and I was THRILLED with the winner. I wont spoil it here just in case you haven't watched it yet. The show is so inspirational!!! The transformations were incredible. I almost cant wait to get in the gym in the morning :-)

I was also thrilled to see that a brand new season of the Biggest Loser begins January 6th on NBC! If you recorded the show tonight be sure to watch it, I think you will be blown away with what they have accomplished.

I have always admired and respected Oprah Winfrey. She is one of a kind, She helps others , She is anOprah   amazing TV host, She owns an entertainment empire AND she like you and I ...struggles with her weight.

I had heard reports about the January cover of her "O" magazine and that she posed on the cover when she was thinner and that she had gained weight and was going to address it in the magazine.

The magazine cover was both honest and inspiring at the same time. When the magazine came into the radio station today... I grabbed it and brought it home to read. I would highly recommend picking up a copy when you see it on the news stand.

Here is just a small quote from Oprah and one that I think we can all relate to and apply to our lives in the new year.

"If you are looking for an excuse to fall off the wagon the universe will provide one. Thats what I have learned. Its not enough to simply claim to care about yourself, when you believe you are worthy of the space you occupy on the planet.

You demonstrate that by insisting that every last one of your choices - from the food you put in your mouth to the commitments you put on your calendar - moves you toward the life you want.

This past year , I completely took myself of my own priority list. I wasn't just low on my list, I wasn't even on my list. What I have realized is that no self care means no self love. We all need to make 2009 the year we give ourselves as much love and support as we give others."

There is a lot more to the article and again I would recommend picking up a copy of the new "O" magazine!

I hope you are having a great week and thank you for checking out my blog :-)

Its been a while...

"It's been a while" is a great song from a band called Staind...it also describes how long its been since I updated my blog lol.

Life has been a lot crazy in the past five days but life has also been VERY good. SO... here are a few random things I wanted to share...

Treating yourself
When we have a great week on the scale or more importantly a non scale victory we need to reward ourselves. For me it reminds me of where I came from on my weight loss journey and where I am headed. When I lost 100 pounds a lot of people told me I should do something to celebrate the milestone. It may not seem like a big thing but I wrestled with what to do or get. I finally decided to get myself a new pair of shoes for my workouts.  Its funny I just feel better with them on my feet while working out. I know it is a mental trick but it works for me ;-) Here are the Under Armour cross trainers I just bought and I love them ...they are very comfortable and supportive :-)

Weigh in this morning...I was excited about going and seeing everybody at the Blue Ash weight watcher meeting this morning. We were are all anxious to hear about the new program. Sue (our amazing leader) explained everything and I brought everything home to really read it tonight too. It doesn't seem that different from what I am already doing but I need to finish reading all the material.

I love what WW has done in my life...I honestly think that WW has been a lifesaver for me and I am thankful.  Before the meeting, I reached a personal goal that I had set a while back and I was excited to meet that goal of losing 120 pounds total. I lost 1.4 lbs this week and now have lost a total of 120.2 lbs.

Weight Training Since I started WW I have only done cardio, I knew I needed to start weight training at some point just to firm up. I recently reached out to one of my WW heroes "Shrunk" and asked her about weight training and how it played into her amazing success.

She gave me some great advice and so this week I started working out at Terry Bryan's training center here in Ohio. Terry is a friend and is amazing at what he does. Kind of funny i see similarities in the atmosphere at WW and at Terry's. Both places have a ton of of people who are so supportive and trying to improve their health. Wish me luck because my butt, Hamstrings, Quads and every other muscle on my body hurts as I write this lol.

New Music for the Holidays ... I have mentioned in other posts that I love my job at the radio station I work at. I am the music director and I also do the afternoon show at an awesome station. I also appear on the Fox TV affiliate and talk about new music.

Hotelcafe Tomorrow morning (fri) I will be reviewing a bunch of new Christmas . Holiday cd's. Here are a few of my new Favs this year:

"Winter Songs" has a bunch of great female artists on it including Colbie Caillat, Sara Bareilles, Lenka, Katy Perry and Fiona Apple.

"Harry Connick Jr. What a Night"  If you like Connick you will LOVE this one.

"This Warm December" A VERY cool new take on holiday classics by Jack Johnson, G Love and others.

"Melissa Etheridge : a new thought for Christmas"

Brian Setzer "Christmas Rocks" One of my favorites!!!

Faith Hill "Joy to the World"

I hope you are doing well and everything is great in your world!!!!

Keeping a journal and more...

Wwjournal
Keeping a food journal is so important, I know we have been told that from the beginning of WW but I have come up with another important reason to keep one. I am a creature of habit when it comes to the foods I eat. Do you ever get bored with the foods you eat? I do and I am always looking for new things to eat.

Well I keep all my food journals and I recently went back and looked at some old ones to see what I used to eat early on in the program. I had forgotten about a bunch of foods that I really like :-)

If you haven't heard about the new WW Momentum plan yet and you are a WW online subscriber log on to weightwatchers.com and you will see the plan unveiled.

Snowman22
I always look forward to my Thursday morning ww meeting with the amazing group at Blue Ash. I wasn't so sure I was looking forward to it this week after having Thanksgiving and a couple of dinners out lol.

However the workouts paid off and I lost 2.2 pounds this week and now have lost a total of 118.8.

New Weight Watchers plan unveiled...online

Quick short post...The new "WW Momentum" plan has been unveiled online at weightwatchers.com. If you are a WW online subscriber it is all laid out for you online at the WW site.

In fear of being sued...I cannot reprint it here :-)

I have just glanced at it and it looks easy and exciting combining elements of both flex and core.

I keep hearing about a new weight watchers plan, that is supposed to start here in the States in a week or so. Have you heard anything about it? The hints I have heard sound like it has something to do with core??

The picture above is from a teaser campaign that is running somewhere in Canada. I am just curious if anyone has heard any details :-) If you have please either leave a message or email me. THANKS!

Hope you had a great weekend!
